Go Green -Upcycle

Today's Challenge at Make My Monday was chosen by Pryia and the theme she has chosen is " Go Green-Upcycle". I  haven't made a card this time but have used an oak stave that would have ended up in the wood burning stove to make a holder for tealights.

We live in the North East of Scotland near the Whisky Trail where Distilleries abound, there are 7 working and 1 historic in a small area. Distilleries are supported by Cooperages, and there are 2 nearby,1 where barrels are repaired, and 1 who make them new as well as make repairs.

Below a stave which is no longer suitable for use

Sanded using hubby's orbital sander, the oak cleans up with a bit of care and sanding, I then marked the position I wanted to put the tea-lights and using a 40mm circle hole cutter, cut to the depth of the tea-light. Poor hubby was on tenterhooks the whole time, not sure whether he was worried about me or his tools though.

HO HO HO

We've had glorious sunshine for the past few days, poor folks in Wales and the South East of England who have had lightening storms and flooding. A day spent in the garden (Sunday), managed to get quite a lot done, now need to rotovate an area and prepare it for planting at the end of summer. Surprise surprise another Christmas card.

One Sheet Wonder

Thank you to everyone who has joined in the first two challenges , and welcome to the third Challenge at Back to Basics and Beyond this fortnight  "One Sheet Wonder" we would like to see at least 2 cards made from a sheet of patterned 12 inch x 12 inch paper, there are lots of ideas on Pinterest which you can find here. You can use a double sided sheet or as I have done one side only. As I prefer mid to larger cards I made my own template, and managed to use every last piece of the sheet, the smallest areas being used to make the candles and hearts.

We would love you to join in, two cards are all you need to make, look forward to seeing you there.

Using a Craft CD

Welcome to our second Challenge at Back to Basics and Beyond, our challenge today is to use a Craft CD, I have several CD's which I turn to regularly, they offer a huge choice of images and papers. I have used Joanna Sheen's House Mouse CD 's in this post. The sentiments are from TLC

You can use the images in different ways, simply print off the page as it appears on the CD example below,or select a single image from the sheet, import it into your photo editing or graphics programme and use it from there, I often resize the images and add sentiments to them before I print them. I have shown a couple of examples of cards, some with backing papers and smaller images, others where the image is much larger.

 as page appears on Cd

I hope you will join in with us , and look forward to seeing your cards.
